Harriet Porter Beecher was the second wife of Rev. Lyman Beecher and the mother of Isabella Holmes Hooker, Thomas Kinnicut Beecher, and James Chaplin Beecher.

She was born 25 April 1790 at Portland, Maine, the daughter of Dr. Aaron Porter and his wife Paulina King Porter. She married Rev. Lyman Beecher 12 October 1817 at Portland, Maine. They were the parents of Frederick; Isabella Holmes Beecher; Thomas Kinnicut Beecher; and Rev. James Chaplin Beecher.

Harriet died 7 July 1835 at Walnut Hills, Cincinnati. Her remains were laid to rest in the Old Walnut Hills Cemetery. (See note below: Her remains were moved in 1878.)

"At Walnut Hills, Cincinnati, on Monday evening, the 6th inst., after a protracted illness, Mrs. Harriet Beecher, wife of the Rev. Dr. Beecher. To those acquainted with this lady, it is hardly necessary to say, that she met death with a calm and dignified composure. The religion which she had inculcated by the persuasive influence of her precept and example, she found fully adequate to sustain her spirit in the dark valley. On Wednesday her body was consigned to the grave, and the presence of a large assembly bore testimony to the affection which the deceased had secured during her short residence at the west."

Note: Harriet Beecher's remains were originally interred at the Old Walnut Grove Cemetery; however, in September or October 1878, her remains were moved to Spring Grove Cemetery to a lot owned by Lane Seminary. She is interred at Section 14, Lot A, Grave 18, according to Spring Grove Cemetery Records.
