Earliest documentation found for Leota (Leota Johnson, daughter, age 3) is in the 1900 US Census with parents (J A Johnson, head, age 47) (S A Johnson, wife, age 40 ) and 3 older siblings (E F Johnson, son, age 11 - Mary E Johnson, daughter, age 8 - J W Johnson, age 7). Both parents were born in Canada, older siblings were born in Nebraska, Leota born in Colorado. Family residing in Precinct 13, Boulder, Colorado in 1900.

After her mother's death in late 1900 Leota and her siblings are apparently broken apart. What happened to her father is a bit of a mystery. John Johnson is too common of a name to pin down for certain in documents.
