Hon. William Henry came into what is now Stark County in 1807, immediately after that portion of the county known as the "New Purchase," was acquired in 1805 by the Treaty of Fort Industry. William Henry assisted in the government surveys of the tenth, eleventh and twelfth ranges in the new purchase land. He briefly served as Associate Judge during the one year term of President Judge George Tod in 1815. After his service as a judge expired, William Henry was elected to the House of Representatives in the State Legislature. After serving the people in that capacity, he went into business as a merchant in what would become Massillon, Ohio and was successful. After turning his business interests over to his son-in-law, Charles B. Cummins, around 1854 he eventually moved to Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio where he became a part of the business community and resided there until his death.
