Wilfred was born on February 16, 1925 to Torkel and Serina (Tengesdal) Aarestad at Juanita, ND. He was raised in the McHenry area on the family farm. He chose to serve God at age 14, and kept true to that vow all his days. He was united in marriage to Thelma Haugen (his forever “Bride”) on September 27, 1947 at Northfield, MN.
Dad spent all of his working years in the Auto parts business, eventually settling in Jamestown, owning and operating Midstate Auto Supply with his longtime friend and business partner, Denny Johnson. He knew and loved this community, and always wanted to be where the action was, in his last years, even if it was just sitting on a bench in Walmart. Like a gatekeeper, he knew most all that came and went. He had a smile and greeting for everyone he met, and a genuine concern for their wellbeing. He became “grandpa” to everyone!
Wilfred is survived by his six children, Becky (Bruce) Miller of Moscow, ID; Mike (Shirley) Aarestad of Box Elder, SD; Doug Aarestad of Redding, CA; Gwen Aarestad of Jamestown; Julie (Brian) Stockwell of Jamestown; and Jim Aarestad of Albuquerque, NM, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Rebekah Sorenson VerBeek of Rock Rapids, IA and Carol Hemming of Santa Ynez, CA; brother-in-law, Ronald Haugen of Hollister, CA and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Thelma; his brothers, Andrew, Erv, Stan, and Sam; sisters, Essie Boelter Tiemens, Mertis Sorenson and Aggie Hartvikson; an infant daughter, Susan and grandson, Dustin Aarestad.
