Richard Wayne Stevens, age 87, of Hagerstown, passed from this life on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at his home.

Born on July 6, 1932, in Middletown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Edward N. and Mary E. Alexander Stevens. He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, May Delores Keefer Stevens in 2004 and Helen Rosalie Emerick Stevens in 2017.

He was a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1950. After graduation he honorably served four years in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Stevens was employed by Safeway Stores, Inc., as a meat cutter, retiring after 32 and 1/2 years of service. He was also employed by Hoffman Quality Meats for 21 years.

He was a member of the Amvets Post 10 in Hagerstown, the Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown and the Korean War Veterans Association.

Mr. Stevens is survived by his son, James W. Stevens of Hagerstown; stepchildren, Beverly A. Gillette and husband, James, of Sebring, Florida, Kimberly S. Christo and husband, George, of Washington, D.C., Robert R. Kline and wife, Donna, of Cumberland, Maryland, Michael L. Kline, of Magnolia, Delaware, Raymond L. Puglisi and wife, Tracey, of Keedysville, LeRoy C. House, Jr. of York, Pennsylvania, Patricia Hornbaker and husband, William, of Newport News, Virginia, and Sandra L. Puglisi of Venice, Florida; many grandchildren, stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son, Allen Eugene Stevens in 1989; brother, Earl Stevens; and two sisters, Eva Miller and Miriam Shoemaker.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2019 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro with Rev. Ron Kurtz officiating. Final resting place ceremonies, with military honors, will be in the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30th at the funeral home in Boonsboro where they will share light refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
