Margaret (Marti) Ann O'Connor, age 51, a Manitowoc resident, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014.

She was born on July 15, 1963 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany where her father was serving in the US Army in Europe, daughter of Dennis and Kathryn Whelan O'Connor. Marti was a graduate of Weaver High School in Akron, Ohio with the class of 1985. She was employed at the Summit County of Ohio Bath Center and later at Holiday House of Manitowoc. Marti's generous spirit brought love to anyone and everyone. She was especially proud of her father's service in the Army and her Irish heritage. Marti was an integral part of the People Together Program. A program designed to increase acceptance for individuals with disabilities. Over a period of 20 years she literally spoke to thousands in Summit County, Ohio. Marti had a very competitive spirit. She loved competing in Special Olympic track and field, bowling, cheerleading, gymnastics and Bocce ball. Marti was extremely proud of her accomplishments in figure skating in Special Olympics and with the Manitowoc County Figure Skating Club. She won a gold medal for figure skating in her division at the National State Games of America in Colorado Springs in 2009. Marti loved to travel and traveled extensively with her family. She made everybody smile. Marti loved her entire family, especially her sister and brother-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her parents: Dennis and Kathryn O'Connor, Manitowoc, one sister and brother-in-law: Kathleen and Jeff Jacoby, Newton; nieces and nephews: Meghan, Kelly, Connor and Ryan Jacoby; aunts and uncles: Paul O'Connor, Homer, NE, Mary Murray, Sioux City, IA. Numerous cousins, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother: Dennis O'Connor, Jr.; her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand Ave., (1416 Grand Ave.) Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleier. Cremation will follow the services at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and Marti will be laid to rest at St. Cornelius Catholic Cemetery in Homer, NE. at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday evening, September 25, 2014 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc from 5:00 PM until the time of a prayer service at 7:00 PM led by Deacon Rich Bahnaman. The visitation will continue on Friday morning, September 26, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand from 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
