Gerald graduated from Menominee High School in 1957.
On August 11, 1962, Gerald married Fay VanHaren at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Marinette; she preceded him in death on January 5, 2019.
Gerald had worked for General Motors in Milwaukee and Scott Paper. He and Fay owned and operated Jerry’s Bar on Hall Avenue in Marinette.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren especially traveling for sports, basketball and baseball. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding around looking for “treasures”.
Gerald is survived by three sons: Gerald Doberstein of Green Bay, WI; Geoffrey (special friend, Dianne MacEachern) Doberstein of Marinette, WI and James (Denise) Doberstein of Menominee, MI;
daughter Jacalyn McPherson of Marinette, WI;
favorite grandchildren: Sabin “Bonehead” (Laura) McPherson and Asaia “Pisser” Polazzo;
grandchildren: Tiffany Doberstein, Jeni Doberstein, Crystal Tadlock, Ryan Doberstein, Kristen Mayes, Wesley Doberstein and Vincent Doberstein;
great-grandchildren: Hailey, Jamira Fay, Jaiona, Jameson, Mason, Brody and Easton;
brothers and sisters-in-law: James “Booie” (Jon) VanHaren, Kay (Darrell) Hebert, Donna (Jeff) Zeratski and Mary (Richard) Matz;
and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife Fay, Gerald was preceded in death by a brother Darrel ( Donna ) Doberstein.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24 from 4 p.m. to 6 at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette. A time of shared memories will be held at 6 p.m.
