Esther May (Loxley) Barnhart

BARNHART Esther May (Loxley) Barnhart. Born December 24, 1929 in Darke County, OH to Isaiah R. and Ethel (Hollinger) Loxley the last of four children. Died October 7, 2011 suddenly following no illness. Married June 10, 1951 to Philip E. Barnhart, Esther was a 1974 graduate of Otterbein College in Westerville. She carved a career for herself when it was not yet cool for women to work outside the house. Beginning as a clerk/receptionist in the dental clinic at Ohio State University she moved into positions as technical librarian in the OSU Main Library, Physics Library and retired from the Science and Engineering Library (SEL). She is survived by her husband of 60 years; son, Eric; granddaughter, Heather; and great-grandchildren, Alison, Lawrence and Austin; daughter, Laraine; granddaughter, Ashley; great-grand-son, Carson; grandson, Dakota; granddaughters, Cheyenne and Savannah. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and their children. She loved nature, travel and working with her hands. She was an avid reader and sought adventure across the globe. She avoided the complications involved in mastering new technology, but embraced the benefits afforded by it of rapid communication. She was fascinated to discover parts of her heritage undreamt of until a project in genealogy prodded her curiosity. In lieu of flowers, Esther would welcome donations to the Otterbein AUniversity Courtright Memorial Library Children's Book Fund "Sarah's Corner".
