Helen Rose (Harkrader) Malcom was born on August 4, 1923 to Roy and Letha (Bellmon) Harkrader. She passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Plantation House in Okmulgee, OK.
Helen grew up on a farm with her sister and four brothers near Wichita, Kansas. While attending grade school in Andover, she met a young man who became the love of her life, Robert Malcom, when he threw a snowball down her back. They married on May 17, 1942.
While Bob was serving during World War II, Helen attended Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas and taught at a one-room country schoolhouse near Augusta, Kansas. Upon Bob's return, they made their home in Andover, Kansas. There, three daughters were born: Camelia Annette, Lani Shelene, and Gwyn Michele. Helen loved music and directed the Children's choir at the Methodist Church in Edmond. She sang in community musicals in Oklahoma City, and upon moving to Okmulgee, joined the Sweet Adelines.
