Ella, a daughter of Isaac Totten and Calista Adams, was married twice. Her first husband was Silas Knowles, son of Ezra B. and Sarah Knowles, whom she married in Birch Run, Saginaw County, Michigan, on March 20, 1881. Ella and Silas had four known children:
1) Edgar Leroy "Roy" Knowles (January 14, 1883 - March 31, 1957), who married Mary L. Raquepaw;
2) Grace A. Knowles (August 9, 1885 - December 15, 1955), who was married to Wellington Clements, George Stoolmaker, and Fred Neeley, in that order;
3) Herman A. Knowles (October 1888 - March 21, 1943), who married Mary G. Weir and then Maude M. Delong;
4) Ida Knowles (July 1890 - ?) who married Floyd Chester Hempstead.
Ella's husband Silas died on September 9, 1891. On October 7, 1896, Ella married Emory E. Corwin, son of William Corwin and Sylvia Beeman, in Saginaw County, Michigan.
Ella and Emory had one known child, Marie, who was born in 1900.
Ella died of coronary thrombosis at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 11 days, and was laid to rest next to her second husband Emory E. Corwin.
