Enlisting in the A.I.F. on 14 May 1941 at Toowoomba in Queensland, Douglas was the son of Douglas and Barker.

A member of the 2/26 Battalion, he was selected as part of "B" Force.

Japanese P.O.W. number 496, he died of Malaria at Sandakan No.2 Camp.

His remains were found by fellow POW in a slit trench and they buried him at Sandakan No.3 Cemetery.

He is remembered on Panel 15 of the Labuan Memorial, Australian War Memorial; the ANZAC Memorial at Leichhardt, New South Wales and the POW Memorial Wall at Ballarat, Victoria.
