Ronald Conrad Derr

Funeral for Ronald Conrad Derr, a retired manager of the Oregon Casket Co. who died Thursday in a Portland hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes. Entombment will follow in River View Abbey.

A lifelong Portland resident, Mr. Derr was 75.

Mr. Derr wasa active throughout his life in amateur softball and served as an umpire in 10 national championships of the National Amateur Softball Association of America. In 1974, Mr. Derr helped write the Official Rule Book for amateur softball. His career as a softball umpire spanned 35 years. He is listed in the Umpire’s Hall of Honor in Oklahoma City, Okla.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Elks Lodge and a former member of the Portland Police Reserves.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; a brother, George of Portland; and sisters, Alice Fairweather of Portland, Louise Simonsen of Las Vegas, Nev., and Maizie Gilbreck of Cupertino, Calif.

The family suggests remembrances be given to Doernbecher Memorial Hospital for Children; to the National Softball Hall of Fame, 2801 N.E. 50th St., Oklahoma City 73111; or to charity.
