Mary Ann was the daughter of John and Mary Ann (Miller) Mason of Rockingham Co., Va. At the time of her death she was the last survivor of 10 brothers and sisters.

In 1855 she married her first husband, Jacob Shank. He was killed in an accident five years later. They had these children: John (predeceased her in 1911), Catherine Heishman, Mary Zook & Benjamin (predeceased her 1860).

She married her second husband Henry Burkholder in 1862. He died in 1889. They had these children: Joseph, Eva Kingery, Sarah (predeceased her in 1872), Hannah Flora, Jacob, Daniel (predeceased her in 1877) and Margaret (predeceased her in 1882). In 1876 they moved to Iowa and lived near one of her brothers, George Mason, who is also buried in the Brethren Cemetery.

She married a final time in 1891 to Nathaniel Ogg. He died in 1902. During that marriage she lived in Minnesota but after his death returned to Iowa and made her home with her children there.
