Parents: Eber & Francis L. (Smith) White (Likely Adoptive Parents.)
According to the stories my parents told me, Eber and Frances White had a daughter named Amanda (however she passed away in 1861). My Grandmother Amanda was a ward of the Catholic Church in Florissant, St. Louis Co., MO. at a young age. And taken in by the White family. Amanda's birthdate fluctuates from 1841 on her gravestone, to 1845 in the census, to 1848 on her death certificate. Obviously, even her son George did not know the year.
Amanda's Death Certificate gives her maiden name as Whitehurse.
There were none in the area of her birth. We believe George gave her name as Whitehurse to protect her lifelong secret. Her father was of a Polk County Indian Tribe.
James White Horse. It is thought her mother died in childbirth. Her name too was Amanda.
