He married Effie Jane Bell in Fargo, Dakota Territory in 1883. They had six children, Fred William, Charles Herbert, Harry Sidney, Florence Bell, Helene May and Marion Roberta Condy.
William, Effie and family homesteaded and farmed in North Dakota, moved briefly back to Mass, then on to Spokane WA (where youngest Marion was born). The family settled and homesteaded in Rupert Idaho in 1907.
William died in Rupert on 24 Apr 1925 of chronic Bright's disease with influenza as a contributing factor.
