Mrs. Ida Spittler of this city and Mrs. Ed Gress of Waco, a cousin, have received word of the death of W. H. McElwain, 77, former York and York county resident, at Denver, Colo., on Saturday. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Denver.
Mr. McElwain came from Illinois to York county in 1903. Several years later he moved to Colorado and bought a large ranch at North Park. He then returned to Nebraska and bought the Chum ranch in Cherry county.
In later years he centered his operations near Denver where he was engaged in cattle feeding and wheat growing.
Surviving are his widow; five sons, Otto, Lloyd, Percy, Wren and Mack, all of Denver; two daughters, Mabel of Denver and Mrs. Winifred Henderson of Lincoln, 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. One son, Harley, was killed in France.
