She grew up in Berwyn where she graduated from high school and attended the University of Illinois. LaVerne would take the train to the university and one day in 1943 she met Wade Kenneth Abbott. They were married in 1948.
LaVerne became an Air Force wife and a stay-at-home mother. She became a seamstress and made all the clothes for her daughter. After Wade retired, they bought a motor home and travel through every state in America, to Canada and Mexico. In 2009 they gave up their traveling and settled down to live at the John Know Village in Weslaco.
She leaves behind her children, Wade and Dale, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceded by her husband of 71 years, Wade and a daughter, Mary Ann and her parents.
