MRS. EFFIE PITNEY DIES IN AMBULANCE
Leipsic Woman, 63, Enroute to Hospital at Lima; Rites Tuesday
Leipsic, Nov. 24, 1940 – Mrs. Effie Pitney, 63, a native of Putnam County, died at 3 p.m. Sunday enroute to St. Rita's hospital, Lima, from acute coronary thrombosis. Mrs. Pitney was stricken with influenza Thursday and this was termed a contributing factor to her death.
When her condition became increasingly critical Sunday it was decided to move her to the hospital in Lima but she died in the ambulance before reaching that city.
Mrs. Pitney was born Dec. 8, 1876, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Doss Campbell. She lived all her life in Putnam County.
One son, Chester Peckinpaugh, of Leipsic; a half brother, Oscar Benton, and a step-brother, Oliver Benton, both of Leipsic, also survive.
She was married to Charles Peckinpaugh and later to George Pitney, both of whom are deceased.
Mrs. Pitney was a member of the Leipsic Daughters of Union Veterans and of the Leipsic Lutheran church.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Fuller funeral home here. Rev. Elmer Lehman will officiate and interment will be in Sugar Ridge cemetery. The body will be moved Monday afternoon from the funeral home to the residence.
