Michael Alan "Mike" Ellett, 48, of Hixson died Saturday, January 3, 2004, in a local hospital after an extended battle with leukemia.

Mike was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County and a graduate of Hixson High School where he played basketball. He attended Middle Tennessee State University and Chattanooga State. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Mike was employed by Rock-Tenn Company. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. As a member of the Rock-Tenn Bass Club, fished many bass tournaments and won the 2002 Nichols Bass Fishing Tournament. He enjoyed playing golf and participated in the sport of karate. A favorite pastime of Mike's was playing the guitar and banjo with his friends. As a young boy he was an all star player on the DuPont-Rivermont baseball team winning the 1967 Dixie Youth District Championship and third place Tennessee State tournament team.

Mike is survived by his wife, Vicki Boyd Ellett; daughters, Hannah and Amy; mother, Patricia Daugherty Ellett; father, Ed (Jane) Ellett, all of Hixson; sister, Micki Clemens, Indianapolis, IN; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Painter and Rev. Mark Love officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Entombment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
