Fred Collins was the son of Nelson Todd Collins and Leah E. Nusbaumer. Fred had 10 siblings. Brothers: Richard, Nelson, Frank, Bennie, Marvin, Mike. Sisters: Mildred, Emily, Elizabeth, Corrinne. They lived and worked on the family farm near the town of Van Buren, Indiana in Grant County. He attended Van Buren High School. After school he went into the US Navy and served on the USS Forest Royal. When get got out of the Navy he Married Ruby Diane Brown and settled in the town of Marion, Indiana. They had four sons: Barry, Jeff, Brian and Mark. Fred had his own shop as a watchmaker and was very good with his hands. Fred died of cancer in 1971 and is buried at Gardens of Mem. Cem., Huntington County, Indiana. A few years after his death, Diane and the boys moved to her hometown in Nelson, Nebraska.
