Samuel's father, also Samuel Plant moved to North Sydney in 1820 to look after properties that the Plants owned there. He married and built a home near the bar (where Rollie’s Wharf is now located.) Samuel (2) married Amelia Charlotte Clarke born July 15, 1803 in Sydney and died July 24, 1879. She was the daughter of Dr. John Wheaton Clarke and Charlotte (unknown surname). They are said to have had eleven children, 9 girls and 2 boys. This union produced 9 girls and 2 boys. They were; Elizabeth Sarah born February 5, 1824, Caroline born November 6, 1826 died 1909, Samuel (3) born October 19, 1828 died 1922 buried in Alder Point, Emily born January 27, 1831 died 1903, Alexis Henrietta born December 2, 1832 and died 1912, Mary Ann born March 17, 1835 and died 1885, Ada Doreatha born July 11, 1836, died 1869, Francis (Fanny) Helen born December 1841, Magdalene Louisa born March 1843 and died May 21, 1929, Susan born September 1845 died May 23, 1922, William John born February 12, 1839 died March 29, 1867. Samuel was a devoted Protestant and when several of his children converted to Roman Catholicism he was furious and went so far in the case of Caroline to disown her.

Samuel Plant (1828-1922) was married three times and fathered in total thirteen children. His first wife was Catherine Morrison with whom he had one child, Margaret Ann born in 1845 at Sydney, NS. His second marriage was to Margaret Deveaux and produced six children, 3 girls and 3 boys. They were; William Phillip born 1851, Charles born 1852, James Henry born July 20, 1853, Margaret born 1857, Ann born 1859 and C. Ann born December 18, 1961. His third wife was to Bridget Phalen who was born 1838. This union produced 6 children 2 girls and 4 boys who were; Emily born March 21, 1872, Arthur born 1875 and died 1944, David born June 11, 1877, Hannatta F. born 1879, Horatio (Ratio) Freedman born August 20, 1880 and died in 1941, and Thomas Warden born April 17, 1883.

Warden, David and Emily, moved to Edmonton, Alberta. It is thought that Warden married and raised a family in Western Canada. David Plant is believed not to have married. Further information about Emily is not available to the author. Arthur Plant married Emily Theriault who was without issue, Horatio (Ratio) Plant did not marry. Both Ratio and Arthur operated relatively large farms in Alder Point and died there in the 1940’s.
