It is with great sorrow that the family of William L. Aber Sr., age 86, announces his passing on October 7, 2004, in Wexford. Mr. Aber was born in Gibsonia, PA, on June 9, 1918, and was the son of Robert M. and Wilda (Black) Aber. He served honorably in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and, for 32 years he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration, 26 of those years as an Air Traffic Controller in the tower at the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport. Following his retirement from the FAA in 1977, Mr. Aber became a corporate pilot for National Mine Service. For over 50 years Mr. Aber was a member of Sharon Community Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, an elder, and the Clerk of Session. Prior to moving to Moon Twp., Mr. Aber had served East Union Presbyterian Church in Cheswick in those same capacities. Bill was the beloved husband of Anna T. Aber, who survives; and the dedicated father of four children: Bill Jr. & his wife Lonnie of Greensboro, NC; Byron & his wife Pam of Gambrills, MD; his daughter, Janice Benard; and another son, Chuck. He was a loving grandfather to Jason and Liza Aber, and to Casey & Courtney Benard. He is also survived by two sisters, Marian Whitten and Reva Nickl; and a brother, Joseph. His dear brother, Ches, preceded him in death in 1999. Friends and guests may pay their respects at the R.D. COPELAND FUNERAL HOME, 981 Brodhead Road in Moon Twp. from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Sunday, October 10. A memorial service for William L. Aber Sr. will be held in Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 522 Carnot Rd., Moon Twp., on Monday, October 11, at 11am. A burial ceremony will be held at the East Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 292 East Union Road, Cheswick, in West Deer Twp.
