Richard "Dick" Tedder Holmes

July 6, 1932 ~ October 13, 2019

of Pleasanton, California

Richard "Dick" Tedder Holmes was born to Washington Franklin Holmes and Queenie Rain Tedder Wilkinson Holmes on July 6, 1932 in Los Angeles County, California. His brothers are Daryl Holmes and Eugene Wilkinson (half brother).

Dick graduated from Elsinore High School in Wildomar, CA., and was sworn into the U. S. Navy June 1950.

Dick was married Elizabeth (Bette) May Lozinto on 6 Sep 1958 in San Francisco, California. They were married for 48 years at the time of her death in 2007. They had two children, Kathleen and Richard.

Awhile after Bette's death, Dick married Sharon Barnum Hicks. Sharon is still living at the time of Dick's death. Sharon was good to Dick and they enjoyed several years of retirement together.

Dick and Bette were very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities. Before Dick married Sharon, she also joined the church and she was also active.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in February 2018 and given six months to live. He managed an amazing 21 months after his diagnosis. That is almost unheard of especially at his age.

Dick was a good and kind man and always a great example to all.

Words of his daughter Kathleen:
He requested no funeral so I'll leave a few thoughts here. I wish there could be a funeral and we could tell funny stories and brag a little about how smart, responsible and good he was. I so appreciate the legacy he leaves me and mine.

Comments from friends to Kathleen on Facebook:

"We were so blessed to know such a wonderful man Dick was a true example of a steady, faithful and constant disciple of Christ. He gave wonderful lessons in priesthood and he lived every word he taught. I never heard him utter an unkind word."

"Dick was our home teacher for several years and Sharon would come with him at times. We always enjoyed him coming and he always offered a prayer in our behalf. The prayers were always beautiful and I always felt comfort when he left. He was always there also when we needed a blessing! They were beautiful too and then there was peace. We have not had a home teacher like him ever and not since. You cannot find better people! "

"It has been a pleasure to get to know Dick through Sharon. He has such a kind, gentle and loving heart! I'm so glad we were able to see him in June."

"He was a wonderful man. I'm so thankful that he came into Sharon's life. I feel privileged to have known him. His legacy will live on in all his descendants. He will be missed."

"I have so many wonderful memories of my uncle. I was lucky to see him at my grandpa's service. He gave me a big hug. Love you Uncle Dick."

"So sorry to hear about Uncle Dick. He was a kind man and so soft spoken."

"Loved your mom, dad, Sharon, and all of you so much! Think the two Gramps (Dick and Bill) will surely have fun up there together!"

"Both your parents were such an example of love to me. I'm blessed to have known them."

"What an inspiration he has been to me. I always enjoyed listening to his heartfelt prayers."

"Dick was a very sweet and caring man."

"Very sad to hear Dick is gone, no one taught like he did. He will be missed."

"I was fortunate to meet Dick through Sharon and immediately loved him."

"I miss my brother so much, I am so glad we got to have long talks on the phone these last months, telling how we felt about each other. My prayers are with Sharon and your family. Love you all, Uncle Daryl."

"I loved your Dad. Always so good to me. Now he and Dad can hang out again."
"My beloved companion-you will be a part of me forever. Farewell until we meet again, Sharon."

'So many tender happy memories of time spent in your childhood home and with your family."

"I will never forget the kindness that your Father and Mother showed to me many years ago. He and your mother truly were wonderful. I was blessed to have met and known them both!"
