Born in the Ukraine to Sonia (Sobol) and Irving Vigder, the stately Russian-born character actress Ivy Bethune, whose career has spanned over half a century, began with a regular role on radio's "Superman". Bethune enjoyed a stage career throughout her life, but began her screen career in the late 1940s in the very early days of television, but whose small screen career really took off in the 1960s, appearing in guest appearances in shows like "The Doctors", Perry Mason", "Barney Miller", "Charlie's Angels", and had a recurring role as 'Miss Tuttle' on "Father Murphy, starring Merlin Olsen. Bethune also appeared in feature films like "Back to the Future" (1985), and "Get Smart" (2008), which she appeared at age 90.

Ivy Bethune died of natural causes on July 19, 2019, at age 101 in Woodland Hills, California. Throughout her life, Bethune was a devoted mother, wife, activist, and actress. She was twice widowed, first to William Charles Bethune marrying in 1939, until his death in 1950, the union producing a daughter Zina (1945-2012). Her second husband was actor/producer Stuart Lancaster, who she married in 1971, until his death in 2000.

Bethune sat on the local board of AFTRA, headed several committees at the Screen Actor's Guild, and on the board of National Council of Actor's Equity, who respectfully offered a Celebration of Life event for the beloved character actress. The former Equity Councilor Ivy Bethune was held in Los Angeles on October 6, 2019 -from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Theatre West 3333 Cahuenga Blvd. West Los Angeles, 90068. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and beloved daughter and celebrated actress and activist Zina Bethune, who was killed in a traffic accident in 2012.
