Katherine Agnes Swarnes, 89, of Clarksville passed away October 18, 2019 at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Per her wishes, she will be cremated. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Missouri. Services will be officiated by Charles Moore.
Katherine was born February 3, 1930 in Edgewood, Missouri, daughter of Jim and Bernice Downing of Eolia, Missouri. Katherine married Forrest Swarnes on June 10, 1947 in Louisiana, Missouri.
Katherine is survived by children Carolyn Stokes (Mark) of Bowling Green, Phyllis Kinsler of Elsberry, Margaret Blackwell (Derrick) of Clarksville, Frank Swarnes (Vicki) of Louisiana and Willie Swarnes (Jolene) of Hay Springs, Nebraska; and sons-in-law Calvin Slaughter of Elsberry and Dave Howard of Clarksville. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Forrest Swarnes, sisters Helen Harding and Margaret Austin, and children Wanda Slaughter and Bernie Howard.
Katherine worked in numerous garment factories throughout her life. She worked at Bowood Nurseries until she was 74 and retired. She enjoyed working word search puzzles and watching out the window to see people passing by.
Katherine was lovingly known as “Nanny” by all who knew her. She was very loved by her family. Katherine lived a full life and all who knew her were doubly blessed. She is loved and will be missed by all.
