BYRD, CHARLES EDWARD SR., 78, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Charlie worked at Bensinger Furniture Co. until its closing. In his retirement, he enjoyed working part-time at Highlands Funeral Home. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jean Lois "Lottie" Bowling Byrd; his three children, Cheryl Ray (Phil), Chuck Byrd (Kim) and Alice Hoffer (Duke); his beloved grandchildren, Chad and Katie Ray, Hannah, Will and Michael Hoffer. He is also survived by his two sisters, Margaret Weber and Betty Bell; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 South Sixth Street, with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Hospice of Louisville.
