CORA ESSEX MATLOCK, age 85, of Winchester, Tenn., departed this life on Monday, October 21, 2019, at STRHS Winchester following a brief illness. She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on August 31, 1934, to the late Lawrence and Addie Bell Bryant Essex. She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Estill Springs. Ms. Matlock was employed most of her working years as a machine operator at the former Genesco Shoe Factory. She enjoyed working her flea market booths and going to flea markets. One of her favorite hobbies was fishing. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Matlock was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Matlock, son, Samuel Edward Howard and son-in-law, Ron Walls. She is survived by her sons; Jerry Hitchcox and wife, Pat of Estill Springs, Tenn., Ronald Hitchcox and wife Linda of Belvidere, Jackie Hitchcox of Winchester, and Lamar Howard and wife, Joy of Belvidere. Daughters; Peggy Walls of Estill Springs and Connie Bates of Shelbyville, Tenn., step-sons; Danny Matlock and wife Chana and Ronnie Matlock and wife, Cynthia all of Estill Springs, Tenn. 12-grandchildren and 10-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Ms. Cora will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening October 23, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 24, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Bro. John Gipson, officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Hillsboro where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Wiley.
