Ursula Marie Amiot was born on December 9, 1923 in Gentilly, MN the sixth child of fifteen born to Armand and Liza (Corbin) Amiot. She was baptized and confirmed into the catholic faith. In 1924 she was diagnosed with polio and when Ursula was 12 years old she went to the Gillette Hospital in St. Paul, MN for treatment to lengthen her leg caused by polio. Ursula attended country school near Gentilly and then after a short stay near Red Lake Falls the family moved to Thief River Falls in 1938 where Ursula attended St. Bernard’s School. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1944. Following high school, Ursula worked at Hartz Foods in the office.
On January 9, 1947, Ursula joined in holy wedlock to Orville Edson Dahl at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN. They made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union four children were born, Linda, Alison, Stuart and Gloria. Ursula enjoyed her time at home while her children were growing up. She later worked for a short time at Carlson’s Café.
She loved playing cards and games, going on trips, quilting, dancing, patching, canning, cooking, baking, making potato dumplings, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She and several of the ladies in the neighborhood enjoyed getting together for birthday club.
Ursula was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and active in Ladies Circle. She also held membership in National Catholic Society of Foresters, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, was a Girl Scout leader and served as election judge for the city of Thief River Falls.
She was a very loyal, loving, caring, confidant, positive and hopeful woman. Ursula never let her physical shortcoming slow her down. She was not a quitter.
