YORKTOWN - The Rev. Aaron C. Bennett, an Episcopal priest for more than 73 years, died after a brief illness, on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at the age of 99.

He had been a resident of Windsong Lane, York County, since 1990, before moving in June to The Devonshire in Hampton.

Mr. Bennett was born in Sharon, Pa., on June 14, 1899, the third of seven children of Aaron and Melda Elizabeth Kelly Bennett.

Graduating in 1921 from Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, where he had served in the Student Army Corps (ROTC) during World War I, he then attended Bexley Hall Divinity School in Gambier and the General Theological Seminary in New York City to prepare for the Episcopal ministry, graduating in 1924.

He was ordained as a deacon in 1924 and as a priest in 1925. He served several mostly rural parishes and missions in Pennsylvania, 1924-1944. Moving to Kentucky in 1944, he served similar fields in Hickman, Columbus and Fulton.

From 1948 until retirement in 1967, he was rector of St. John's Church, Cape Vincent, N.Y. His residence until 1990 was divided between Cape Vincent and St. Petersburg, Fla.

Mr. Bennett married the late Mary Elizabeth Bostock in 1929 and the late Kathryn G. Pillmore in 1972.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Edgar C. and Winifred A. Bennett of Kailua, Hawaii; his daughter and son-in-law, Jane B. and Alan D. Frazer of Yorktown, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 179 East Mercury Blvd., Hampton, with the Rev. Richard L. Vinson officiating. Interment at a later date will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Cape Vincent, N.Y.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church or to the American Heart Association.
