JOHN A. HELGESON
(1921 - 2017)

John Helgeson, 95, passed from this earth to the eternal peace and love of Gods arms on Monday evening, Jan. 9, 2017 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.

John, the second youngest of five children was born to Albert and Sophia Helgeson on April 21, 1921. He was a 1939 graduate of Valders High School, Valders, Wis. John married Irene Elizabeth Delaney (Betty) on May 26, , 1948 at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Valders, Wis. The couple resided on a dairy farm two miles west of Valders on 151 until their retirement in 1988 when they moved to Valders. They celebrated 61 years together. John has resided at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center for the past nine months. John was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran church in Valders, serving in many capacities throughout his life; among his favorites were Sunday school teacher, Mentor to Luther Leaguers, Men's Bible Study and Stephen's Ministries. He was a member of the Valders Lions Club for 30 years and won two titles in the State of Wisconsin Plowing Championship.

He is survived by one son and two daughters, Dan (Mary) Helgeson of Rothschild, Lynn (Terry) Owen of Sheboygan and Julie (Jim) Hess of Sheboygan; one son-in-law and one daughter-in-law, Peter Steinberg of Reedsville and Diane Helgeson of Reedsburg; 12 grandchildren: Sarah (Mark) Tauscher, Andy Helgeson, Joseph (Margaret) Owen, Gabriel (Danielle) Owen, Heidi Hess (special friend, Paul Mongin), William Helgeson, Rebecca (Justin Warren) Helgeson, Davaid Helgeson, Brianna (Tyler) Schield, Jason (Hallie) Steinberg, Darcie (Andy) Bauknecht, Phillip Steinberg (special friend, Sage) and six great grandchildren: Sadi Helgeson, Maxwell and Eleanor Tauscher, Emmett Warren, Mimi Owen and Aiden Shield. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Werth, Viroqua and one brother-in-law, William (Dean) Delaney, Montana along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Helgeson, parents, Alfred and Sophia Helgeson; his parents-in-law, Charles and Rose Delaney; one son, Dr. Tom Helgeson; one daughter, Wendy Steinberg; one brother, two sisters, four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Norman (Sarah) Helgeson, Alice Mae (Jim) Forsyth, Jeanette (Clarence) Paque, Willard Werth and Charles (GLenna) Delaney; three nephews, Larry ( and his wife, Joan) Helgeson, Jeffrey Paque and Michael Delaney and one niece, Cindy Helgeson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders, Pastor Erica Cunningham of Faith Lutheran church in Valders officiating. Friends may call at Faith Lutheran Church in Valders from 9:00 am until the time of services. The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home is serving the family.

The family would like to send special thanks to the wonderful staff at Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center, for all the kind, compassionate care provided. Thank you, also to the many friends, relatives, neighbors who have visited John, called him and kept in touch throughout his wonderful life. You all have meant so much to him.
