BERNARD J. 'BERNIE' SCHMIDT
(1941 - 2007)

Bernard J. "Bernie" Schmidt, age 66, of 1938 Roosevelt Ave., Two Rivers, died early Sunday morning, May 20, 2007, at his residence.

Bernie was born March 18, 1941, in Manitowoc, son of the late Bernard and Irene (Thor) Schmidt Sr. On Aug. 7, 1971, he married the former Florence Paulus at St. Mark Catholic Church in Two Rivers. He was employed for 43 years in the Rolling Mill at Mirro Aluminum. Bernie was a Cub Scout leader and Boy Scout leader for 34 years and was also a District Commissioner. He received the George Meany Award, Silver Beaver and Wood Badge. He also received the St. George medal and Bronze Pelican medal.
Bernie was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a Fourth Degree. He enjoyed carpentry and loved woodworking, biking and canoeing. A big joy of his life was volunteering at Holy Family Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Schmidt, Two Rivers; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Nathan Smith, Alexandria, Va.; two sons, Erik (Heather Kilgore) Schmidt, Chicago; Kevin Schmidt, Plymouth; two granddaughters; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Larry Bergner, Two Rivers; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Mary Lynn Schmidt, Two Rivers; sister-in-law, Christine Faschingbauer, Bloomer; brothers-in-law, George (Sue) Paulus, Racine; Greg (Susan) Paulus, Rice Lake; Gerald (Kellee) Paulus, Rice Lake; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O'Brien.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.
The Klein & Stangel Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Two Rivers, is assisting the Schmidt family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Holy Family Hospice for the loving care given to Bernie. A special thank you also to Mary & Larry Bergner, George and Mary Lynn Schmidt, Jeff and Lora Werner, Bob and Lynn Froelich, Dave and Ruthie Stehula, John and Kaila Koerner, Kathy and Sterling Schmidt, Bob and Helen Cichantek, Nick Borneman, and Tom Bushman.
