(1930 - 2007)

LeRoy R. "Lee" Spaeth, age 76, of 3910 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc, passed away on Saturday evening June 23, 2007, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Lee was born on Dec. 9, 1930, in Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late John and Clara (Kohlbeck) Spaeth. He graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1949. Lee served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, as well as the ceremonial honor guard in Washington D.C. for nine months. He married Dorothy Robison in 1955. Lee was a general sales manager for various auto dealerships in the midwest, retiring from Ford-Lincoln Mercury of South Beliot, Ill., in 1994. He then returned to the Manitowoc area, where he enjoyed fishing, biking and daily trips to the senior center.

Survivors include the mother of his children: Dorothy Spaeth; six children: Cindy and Ernie Sowatzki; Jeff Spaeth and Eric Spaeth; Sue and Brian Waier; Linda and Jim Thorp; and John and Mikki Spaeth, all from the Janesville area. His life was blessed with 13 grandchildren: Shena, Jared, Adam, Stephanie, Karrisa, Mackenzie, Ben, twin girls, Brianne and Jenna (both together in heaven with their grandpa), Hallie, Colton, Matthew and Savannah; one brother: Bernard Spaeth; two sisters: Rose Metzger and Loretta Truettner, all from the Manitowoc area. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Lee was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers-in-law: Mary Ann and Herbert Kubsh; William Metzger; and one sister-in-law: Delores Spaeth.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, followed by military rites accorded by V.F.W. Otto Oas Post 659.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
