William H. (Jack) Van de Grift, age 82, a St. Mary's Home for the Aged resident, formerly of 932 N. 11th St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday evening, January 18, 1995, at St. Mary's Home.

In loving memory of Jack, family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life in Jack's memory on Sunday, January 22, 1995, from 3-7 p.m. at the Heritage Inn, 908 Washington St., Manitowoc. Cremation will have taken place.

He was born July 10, 1912, in Antigo, Wis., son of the late John and Mildred Glass Van de Grift. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1930. He retired from Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company after 35 years of employment as a burner. Jack helped build submarines during World War II. He served in the Army National Guard in the 1930's and was a photographer during the Depression. He married Bernice Maurer on March 28, 1942, at Louis Corners in Manitowoc County. Jack loved his family, friends and life.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice; his children, Aurilee (Walter) Hvostik, Chicago, Ill., Tom (Leann) Van de Grift, Madison, Karen (Al) Copiskey, St. Nazianz, Steven ( Patricia) Van de Grift, Manitowoc; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mid Belinski, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

The family request that no floral arrangements be sent. He lived his life in peace. He loved us all and we loved him.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
