Robert (Robear) Bauers, age 83, Algoma, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at the Dorchester Health and Rehab Center, Sturgeon Bay.

He was born March 23, 1923, in Two Rivers, to Joseph A. and Leona (Vieau) Bauers. Robear grew up in Two Rivers and worked at Burger Boat for two years. He married Pearline Lesperance June 20, 1942, in Two Rivers. He then entered the U.S. Army and served overseas in the Philippines for two years from 1944 to 1946. After his discharge he worked for the Gambles Store in Two Rivers, and then the couple moved to Algoma where he managed the Gambles Store in Algoma from 1948 until 1984. Robear was past president and board member for the Algoma Chamber of Commerce, the Algoma Optimist Club, and past board member for over 20 years of the Algoma Housing Authority. He was a current member of the American Legion Post 236 and the VFW Post 7152, both of Algoma. He was also a member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Maplewood. He was an avid snowmobiler, riding with family and friends until he was 81 years old. He would like to race with his grandson: Rob, and they were always challenging each other. He enjoyed his time that he spent up at his cabin that he built in Pembine.

He is survived by his wife: Pearline of 63 years; his daughters: Lana (Al) Reinhart, Algoma; Sharyn (Pat) Collins, Green Bay; Cindy (Dan) Weber, Fort Atkinson; Lou Ann (Steve) Salmon, Eagle River; Sue Ann Bauers, (special friend: Tim), Eagle River; and Julie Bauers, Sturgeon Bay; 13 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; one sister: Marietta Miller, Two Rivers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Gail; and one sister: Elaine Rovinski.

Friends may call at the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Maplewood, Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Wilbert Buhl officiating. Full military rites at the church with entombment at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum to follow.

The Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, assisted the family with arrangements.
