Eva Doris Meeks Cothren

Eva Doris Meeks Cothren, age 93, of Alma, formerly of Nicholls, passed away Friday, June 29, 2007, at the Bacon County Hospital following an extended illness.

Mrs. Cothren, a native of Coffee County, had lived in the Alma area for the past three years. She was a retired seamstress of Oxford South of Alma. She was the daughter of the late Wesley Meeks and the late Alice Smith Meeks, and the wife of the late Leon Wesley Cothren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Wesley, two daughters, Annie Lee Baron, and Mildred Moore, two sons, R.L. "Stony" Cothren, and Milton "Buddy" Cothren. two brothers, Walsten Meeks, and Luther Meeks, four sisters, Carrie Harris, Dorothy Tanner, Julia Cox, and Berniece Lyons, and one grandson, Tony Cothren.

Mrs. Cothren was a member of the Camp Ground United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son Leroy "Pete" and wife Frankie Cothren of Nicholls, and one sister, Elvie "Litlon" Youngblood of Eatonton, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Camp Ground United Methodist Church in Bacon County with Reverend James Boyd officiating. The interment followed in the Camp Ground Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were D.L. Cothern, Patrick Cothern, James Stewart, Leroy Hayes, Melvin "Bubba" Simmons, and Hughie "Skip" Barron, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Nina Lott, Dewayne and Laverne Page, Reverend and Mrs. H.L. Pharr, staff of Twin Oaks Convalescent Center of Alma, staff of Bacon County Hospital of Alma, and Congregation.

Special musical selections, "Precious Moments", and "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be", were rendered by the Liberty Singers, with Bobbie Nell Taylor, at the piano. "Prelude" and "Post-Lude", soft hymns were presented by the Pianist, Bobbie Nell Taylor.
