Joseph Francis Abate, 95, of Chester, NJ passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Holly Manor Nursing Home in Mendham, N.J. Joseph was born on December 8, 1917 in Melrose Park, Illinois. He lived in Morris County, N.J. for the past 3- years and previously lived in Rolling Meadows, Illinois for over 40 years.
Joseph was a retired Electrical Engineer for Western Electric in Rolling Meadows, IL. He was also a WWII Air Force Veteran and retired as a Major in the Reserves. Joseph was active at St. Colette Parish in Rolling Meadows for over 40 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and an avid golfer, chess player and gardener.
Joseph is survived by his children: Thomas Abate and wife Bonnie, Mary Jean Motto and husband Michael, and Michael Abate and partner Kevin Reidy; his grandchildren Benjamin Jenkins; Anthony, Karen, David and Matthew Abate; and Rachel and Philip Motto. His loving wife Ann and daughter JoAnn Jenkins predeceased him.
A memorial service and interment will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00a at St. Colette Parish in Rolling Meadows, IL. A burial service will be held following mass at St. Michael's Cemetery in Palatine, IL.
