Ren was one of five known children born to John Adsit and his wife, Lucy Reynolds. Ren married twice. He first married Margaret Thompson on February 16, 1832 in Warren County, Ohio. They had five known children. After Margaret's death in December of 1850; Ren married Mary Shanklin (of Ohio). Ren and Mary celebrated their wedding on May 3, 1851 in Boone County, Indiana.
