Born Jean François Gaston Bazille , he was a lawyer, winegrower and French politician. He is Senator of Herault from 1879 to 1888. He lived at his estate, which had been in his family since the 12th century. He was the father of painter, Fredric Bazille. He is the author of a book on the subject of the buildings of the Protestant and Catholic churches within the city. He is president of the agricultural society of Hérault and member of the higher council of agriculture and the national society of agriculture . He participates with Félix Sahut and Jules Émile Planchon in the discovery of phylloxera July 15, 1868. He received the in 1875 the Officer of the Legion of Honor.
