Mrs. Adams was born at Virgennes, Addison county, Vt., April 18, 1822, and came to Sangamon county with her mother and brother, settling near Rochester in 1838.
She was married to Josias H. Adams in Springfield on Aug. 4, 1844. Her husband was for many years a prominent merchant with his place of business on the west side of the court house square.
To the couple were born seven children, four of whom survive. The survivors are: Mrs. C.C. Cromwell, Mrs. E.A. Conner and Miss Maude Adams, all of Springfield, and Mrs. Emma A. Gill of Oakland, Cal.
