Larry Lindal Allen, age 70, passed away on October 23, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. He was born November 15, 1948 and was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Wesley Allen and Agnes Virginia Palmer. While born in Seaford, Delaware, Larry frequently visited his cousins each weekend in Lewes. Lewes soon became his home for the remainder of his life. Larry graduated from Seaford High School and Delaware Technical Community College. He served his country honorably in the US Army Reserves and Delaware National Guard.

Larry was a kind and patient teacher who was especially good with advice and guidance. He loved anything mechanical; whether fixing his own cars, rebuilding boat engines, or completing personal projects as a hobby. He was a gifted craftsman and carpenter who had an amazing eye for detail. Larry was always persistent and thorough; a man of integrity who took pride in everything he did. Building was a labor of love for him. This was exemplified early on when he designed and built his first home for his parents. He followed this path and continued his career as a construction superintendent and as a Planning and Zoning Manager for Kent County. When he wasn’t building or fixing things, he enjoyed going to the beach, surf fishing and boating.

Larry was kind-hearted and a devoted son, brother, uncle and father. He is survived by his daughter Susan Stephanie Allen, his brother Michael Wesley Allen, his nephew Christopher Michael Allen, two grand-nephews and several aunts and uncles. He also had a soft spot for animals and took in several stray dogs over the years. In lieu of flowers, Larry requested donations be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA: bvspca.org/donate/

Funeral services will be held graveside at St. Peter's Episcopal Cemetery at 12 noon Friday November 1, 2019. Following the service,a celebration of life will be held at the The Wheelhouse Restaurant in Lewes.
