Attended Ferris State College where he met his future wife Elizabeth Phelps. They were married in Angola, Indiana. He played the Clarinet in the band Ferris Melody Boys. They played mainly in hotels as well as speakeasy's. Lived in Upper Darby, Pa when oldest son William III was born.
He then ran a printing company in Chicago, which was in operation for over 70 years. Daughter Joanne was born in 1935. Moved to Glencoe, Illinois from Chicago. Spent much of his time at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe where he was the chairman of the grounds and greens.
After wife Elizabeth committed suicide in 1966, he married his second wife Jeanette (Jean) Raisler, O'Conner a widow from Appleton, Wisconsin. They moved to the San Diego area around 1970.
