Doris Christman-Banks, 81, of Longview passed away May 1, 2009.

She was born Sept. 1, 1927, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Ernest and Lois (Knapp) Maynard.

On Dec. 26, 1949, she married Merle Christman in Portland. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded by two sons, John and Jim Christman; a sister, Betty Meyers; and three brothers, Paul, Phil and Bob Maynard.

She married Glen Banks in Ocean Park Oct. 4, 1997. He survives her at home in Longview.

Mrs. Banks moved to the local area 60 years ago. She trained as a licensed practical nurse at Lower Columbia College and worked as an LPN as well as a journalist. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, Mount St. Helen's Hiking Club and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gardening, hiking and teaching Sunday school.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Banks is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Christie Christman, and Robin and Cherryl Christman, all of Port Orchard, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Winifred Maynard of Eugene and Sylvia McCaslin of Klamath Falls, Ore.; six grandchildren, Joseph Christman of Los Angeles, Michael Christman of Sarasota, Fla., Adam Christman and Sarah Christman, both of Bakersfield, Calif., Kevin Christman of Seattle and Erin Webberson of Bremerton; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chuck and Leona Harris and Frank and Edna Watkins, all of Longview.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16 at Columbia Heights Baptist Church, 3136 Columbia Heights Road in Longview. Pastor Gene Anglin will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, Golden Gate Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif., and Victory Bible Camp in Sutton, Alaska.

Arrangements are by Dahl-McVicker Funeral Home.
