He was born December 3, 1918 in Panguitch, Utah, a son of Arthur Pratt Cannon and Meleta Hale Daly Cannon. He married Idonna Whitehead, February 28, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. Together, they have a great posterity and have always enjoyed their extended family.
Jim was drafted into the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, and served honorably for 18 months. Jim was a plumber by trade and ran the "James A. Cannon Plumbing Co." for 20 years. After which, he worked for Salt Lake County.
Throughout his life he was active in the LDS Church, holding many church position. Some of his callings included: Counselor in the Bishopric, Scout Master, and Elder's Quorum president. At the time of his death he was a High Priest in the West Jordan 66th Ward.
He is survived by his eternal companion, Idonna; four children, Sharlene (Gary) Ewell, Taylorsville, Utah; James A. (DaLynn) Cannon, Jr., West Bountiful, Utah; Shirley Price, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Connie (Clyde) Keesler, Magna, Utah; 24 grandchildren, 26 of 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Homer (Beverly) Cannon, Salt Lake City, Utah; Samuel (Roxie) Cannon, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn child; two sisters; and one great-grandchild.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 6500 So. Redwood Road, West Jordan, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 19, 1997 at 11 at the West Jordan 66th Ward, 7265 South 2700 West, West Jordan, Utah. Friends may call there one hour prior to services. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates under the direction of Memorial Estates.
