She was born December 5, 1944 in Poplar Bluff, the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Olive (Hendrickson) Head.
Dorothy was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School in the class of 1963. On November 4, 1972 she married Joe L. Abney in Poplar Bluff. He survives.
She was a receptionist at Kneibert Clinic. Dorothy was of the Baptist faith and a member of First General Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff. She played the organ for the church. She enjoyed gospel music, reading, and being with family. She was a member of TOPS Weight Management.
In addition to her husband, Joe, she is survived by three sons, Robert L. Abney, Jon D. Abney, and Timothy J. Abney, all of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Sherry Head of Springfield, MO; and a nephew and a niece whom she raised, Thomas D. Abney and Kara Abney Young.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Richard Head and a sister Margie Thornberg.
Visitation will be Wednesday February 28 at 10 am at First General Baptist of Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 am, also at the church. The Rev. John Crowley will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
