(The following is from my Aunt Jan's obituary. She was a very special lady, that adored Engelbert Humperdink! She saw him eveytime he was performing nearby. A few weeks prior to her passing I was able to watch an Engelbert in concert DVD w/ her, I am so glad I had the opportunity to share an Engelbert moment w/ her.)

Janet K. Mulhorn was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Janet will be remembered as an outstanding individual.

Janet was born on Friday, January 13, 1938 at home in Redwood Valley, California. She was the daughter of Fred and Angelina Ortiz. Janet was raised in Redwood Valley and Riverside, California.

Janet was raised with 4 siblings. She had one older sister, Kay Magana, two younger sisters, Diane and Hannah Ortiz and younger brother Fred Ortiz. Janet was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.

As a young girl, Janet had a number of interests. Like most children, she enjoyed playing and making up games. She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. In her spare time she liked to go swimming. However, to Janet , the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with her friends.

A typical teenager, Janet had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She graduated from Ukiah High School in 1956. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subject was Math.

Always considered a "good" friend to those she knew, Janet enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during her lifetime.

On May 30, 1964 Janet exchanged wedding vows with her husband James W. Mulhorn. Empathic and loyal, Janet was committed to making her new family happy.

Janet worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Janet and James were blessed with three sons, Frank Ortiz, James Mulhorn and Jeffrey Mulhorn. Another blessing for Janet was the gift of her four grandchildren, Kristina Chavez, Jeffrey Mulhorn, Justin and Jennifer Mulhorn.

Fortunately, Janet enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Janet worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was as a hospital unit secretary. She was employed for 25 years by Kaiser Hospital. Janet always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.

Janet enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were reading and watching the Food Network on TV. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.

Janet was a woman who took pride in upholding her beliefs. Politically, Janet was Republican.

Janet 's faith was important to her. She was an 18 year member Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Redlands, California.

Janet enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax. Favorite vacations included Redwood Valley, California.

Janet was a lover of animals and cherished her pet. Her favorite pet was her cat, Rusty. They were best friends for 12 years.

When Janet 's retirement finally arrived in 1994., she was well prepared. Her new life involved relocating to Fontana and Redlands, California. In retirement, she found new pleasure in reading, watching TV and spending time with her grandchildren.

Janet passed away on Friday, July 13, 2007 at home in Redlands, California. Janet fought a brave battle against cancer. Services were held at St. George Catholic Church in Fontana, California. Janet was laid to rest in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Colton, California.

Simply stated, Janet was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Janet leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Janet K. Mulhorn.
