Wayne was born in Wildwood, FL to Arthur Joe and Alice (Hurst) Hooten.
He attended local schools and served his country in the Coast Guard Reserve. He was a lifelong resident of Sumter County. He worked for the Sumter County Times, retired from Dick Jarrett Ford and then pursued his career in real estate at Tadlock Realty. Wayne was a Christian and held true his Christian values. Active in his community, he was a member of the SSHS Booster Club, Republican Club of Sumter County and the Sumter County Farmer’s Market. He founded the South Sumter Bandits Football League and the Sumter Seminole Boosters. Wayne was an avid Florida State fan. He always enjoyed cooking for charitable organizations and fundraisers throughout the community. Wayne’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family.
Wayne is survived by his wife Donna Hooten of Bushnell, sons Joey (Jennifer) Hooten of Bushnell and Timmy (Bridget) Hooten of Tarrytown, FL. He leaves grandchildren Brendan Hooten, Delaney (Justin) Howell and Leila Hooten and his sister Martha Ann Sparkman of Webster, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Joe and Alice Hooten.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Purcell Chapel, 114 West Noble Ave. in Bushnell. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church in Webster with Pastor Ronny Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories in Webster.
