Spoke with the current owner and He confirmed that he had purchased two adjoining properties, and was told that both used to have old homes on them. He was told that both were owned by a man that also owned hundreds of acres behind the home, planted in peach orchards. He stated that this property was indeed in Brewers District, (please look at the 1880 Federal Census Record) and that it was the only "deeded" properties in the area. He explained that he was told that the larger old home (surely Archibald and Kizziah's) was burned after a family quarrel over the inheritance of land and property. He went on to describe that he was told that bums had been sleeping in the remains of the larger home for some time, and that teens also partied there on weekends. He purchased both properties, however, they were just the land where the homes once stood, and the hundreds of acres behind them had been flooded when the river was dammed up and Lake Jackson formed. He stated that a very large bulldozer had been used to remove one "monster" Oak tree and the larger old home. (see the photo I took in which one Oak tree on the opposite side of Polk road will give you an idea as to the size of the two other trees removed) He stated that before he purchased the properties, that the remains of the old home were pushed back into the forest behind his new built home. Both properties had stone walls and stone steps up to the leveled area where the old home once stood.

Birth and marriage records from Archibald Polk family bible records owned by Ms.M.C. Johnson and printed in Georgia Bible records book.
Owned property on old Alex Polk Road in Brewer's DIstrict at tip of Newton County, Ga. There were 2 deeded, elevated and stone walled properties that had orchards and land that stretched out behind 2 homes which was of hundreds of acres. There was a dispute per family records that the old larger Polk home was sold to non-family instead of being an inheritance, and this old home mysteriously burned shortly afterwards. His youngest son Joshua A. Polk stated that the remains of the old home were pushed off of it's location into the woods behind where he had constructed his new home.
Many graves of the family are missing as they were in a small graveyard called Polk Cemetery where became a victim of progress shortly after the Lloyd Shoals Dam was built in 1910 and Archibald Polk's hugh plantation extending down into Jasper County was flooded. Now land and graves were turned into Jackson Lake
