"On the morning of Sep 17, 1903, Uncle Polk had his breakfast as usual, then went to a nearby barn. After several hours passed and he did not return to the house, his wife sent out an alarm, causing several neighbors to assemble and begin a search for him. Later in that day, Andrew Nichols found him up a hollow back of, and not far from the Riddle home. He had hanged himself from a tree.
