Joseph's death certificate was informed by his wife, Jennie. She noted his parents on the certificate. Joseph was a farmer at the time of his death. The certificate also gave the county of his death as Chesterfield, in the city of Richmond, Virginia, however that selection is not available in Findagrave. He died in his home at 4013 Decatur, of organic heart disease.

Joseph married Jennie Elizabeth Sapp on February 28, 1889 in Beaver Creek, Fremont, Colorado. In her death certificate her parents were recorded as J. M. Sapp and Narcissis Minter. Jennie was a nickname for Jane.

The couple had several children. In 1900 when they were living in Colorado, their children were Fred M age 10, Christopher P age 7, and Thomas A age 5. In 1910 when they were living in Hopkins County, Texas, another member had joined the family, Neoma age 5, born in Colorado. In 1920 the couple were living in Brazoria County, Texas, with their son Frederick and his wife Emma and daughter Ada, and son Christopher and daughter Neoma.

After Joseph's death, Jennie lived with her son Christopher Perry in Richmond, Richmond (Independent City), Virginia. Christopher informed Jennie's death certificate.
