According to a very brief article in the Arizona Dai;y Star, 16 February 1906, page 8, McFarland was a telegraph line repairer for the Southern Pacific railroad. He was brought to Tucson from Benson, Coichise county, in bad shape and died almost immediately upon arrival. He was to be buried that afternoon. According to another article, same paper on 17 February, the funeral was postponed until relatives could be contacted.

A burial permit was issued in Saint Louis, Missouri on March 22, 1906. It is shown in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on that date. No burial shown. (?) Arizona Death Certificate shows burial in I.O.O. F. Cemetery (Court Street), Tucson.

Cause of Death: Pulmonary tuberculosis (Consumption)
